Axel Straschnoy (born 1978) is a visual artist and filmmaker from Buenos Aires, based in Helsinki. His work deals with the social practices surrounding objects of knowledge.
The Finnish Astronautical Society is a project on the past and present of the Finnish Space Programme. It deals with the history of Finnish futurism, space exploration and male hobbies. The project focuses on the activities of the Finnish Astronautical Society: an organisation founded sixty years ago to advance space exploration that today mainly focuses on the launching of scale models of space rockets.
Aspirations and dreams about space are central to the short film by Axel Strasсhnoy, who, narrating the story of the Finnish Astronautical Society, explores the Finnish futurism and the futuristic ambitions of post-war Finland... Having become a member of the society, Strasсhnoy observes the contemporary routine and rituals of rocket models launching in which he also occasionally participates.

Axel Straschnoyn installaatio, koostuen videoesseestä ja tekojen ytimessä olevista objekteista, raketeista, on yhtäaikaisesti muistutus menneestä ja viittaus kohti tulevaa. Teos, jonka lähtökohta on Suomen Avaruustutkimusseuran tasavuodet, heidän 60-vuotisjuhlansa. Lähtökohta, joka erinomaisen elegantisti yhdistää tunteen siitä menneestä nosteesta, siitä että mikään, ei sitten yhtään mikään ei meitä pidättele (kunhan kärsivällisesti jaksamme laskea ja tutkia, kokeilla ja kehittää teknologiaa) siihen tilaan ja tilanteeseen, jota olisi kiva kutsua krapulaksi mutta jossa tämän päivän horisonttien sumeus ja ongelmien ristiin vetävä keskinäispaino on sen verran törkeä että tilannearvio vaatii hieman rosoisemman nimen.
