The Permian Projects
The Permian Projects are two research projects on the natural history collection at the Perm Regional Museum (Perm Kray, Russia). Their backdrop is the End-Permian Extinction (the biggest extinction ever to take place on Earth). The projects reflect on the Museum of Natural History and on the ongoing extinction process. They consist of a collection of the insects exterminated as part of the museum’s conservation efforts and of a series of dioramas on the taxidermied animals in its collection.
“Straschnoy’s projects – The Permian Collection and Dioramas – […] deconstruct the very idea of museumification, which embodies the dichotomy between life and death.”
